Revolution Announce Player Signings

RICHMOND, VA.: SportsQuest and the Richmond Revolution announced today at a press conference held at the historic St. John's Church in Richmond that they added 5 players to their roster.

Stephen Cason - DB: Cason joins the Revolution after spending time at all levels of indoor football. He last played in 2008 with the Georgia Force of the AFL, collecting 75 tackles and 1 interception. He earned his spot on the Force by way of a record setting year in 2007 as a member of the Green Bay Blizzard of the af2. In 15 games with the Blizzard he set the af2 record for tackles in a season with 113, also adding 6 interceptions for 60 yards, and 17 passes broken up.

Cason played his college ball at William and Mary, seeing action in 36 games, 30 of which were starts. Over the 36 games of his career he notched 186 tackles (12 TFL), 20 passes defensed, and 8 interceptions. He also posted 45 kickoff returns for 1,046 yards with one touchdown on special teams.

As a senior he was named second team All-Atlantic 10 after tallying 65 tackles, five passes defensed, four interceptions, and 1 sack. He also was a second team All-Atlantic 10 his junior season, recording a career-high 74 tackles (7.5 TFL), 7 passes defensed and 1 interception.

Originally born in El Paso, TX, Cason was a two-year letter winner at James River (Midlothian, VA) High School where he rushed for 1,467 yards and 20 touchdowns while playing running back, cornerback and kick returner.

Stephen Howell - DB: Howell comes to the Revolution after a great career at the University of Richmond that saw him sign a contract and attend training camp with the Detroit Lions in 2008.

Howell started 48 games at Richmond over 4 seasons, being voted a captain during his senior season along with Arizona Cardinals running back Tim Hightower. That year he had 88 tackles, .5 sacks, 10 passes defensed, 2 interceptions and 2 fumbles forced and recovered. In 2006, as a junior he intercepted a career high 3 passes, and recorded a tackle in all 11 games, giving him a total of 43 for the season.

For his career at Richmond, Howell totaled 274 tackles (5.5 TFL), 27 passes defensed, 4 forced fumbles and 3 recovered. He stands ninth on the school's career interceptions list with 9. Howell earned All-Capital District and All-Metro honors for head coach Scott Burton at Highland Springs High School just east of Richmond. He was named the team's co-defensive player of the year after making 61 tackles, 3 interceptions and 6 passes defensed in 9 games. Throughout his high school career he averaged 18.1 yards every time he touched the ball on offense.

Brandon Isaiah - RB: Isaiah signs with the Revolution after spending time in the af2, AIFA, and on the practice squad of the Kansas City Brigade in the AFL. During his time with the Brigade Isaiah won the Al Lucas Hero team award for his time spent out in the community, an award given to one player on every team in the league.

In 2007, Isaiah played 13 games at Fullback with the Tennessee Valley Vipers of the af2, rushing for 105 yards and 6 touchdowns, as well as making 14 receptions for 127 yards and 5 touchdowns. His total of 11 touchdowns ranked third on the team, while his total yards had him ranked fourth overall. In limited play on defense he also contributed 11.5 tackles. Isaiah spent 2006 with the Richmond Rebels of the AIFA, where he tied the league record of 5 touchdowns in one game.

In college, Isaiah played fullback and defensive line at the University of Virginia, blocking for future NFL player Wali Lundy. During his time at Virginia, Isaiah played 38 games, averaging 6.2 yards per carry, scored two touchdowns and made 22 tackles on defense.

While playing at Parkland High School in Winston-Salem, NC, Isaiah once rushed for 386 yards in one game. He was named to the North Carolina All-State team by USA Today, he was a two time All-Conference selection, a 1999 Shrine Bowl captain, and held 10 school rushing records by the time he graduated. He capped off his incredible high school career at Parkland by having his number 8 jersey retired a few years ago.

Lawrence Lewis - DE/OG: Lewis, a graduate of Virginia Tech, has starred on both sides of the ball since starting his professional career in 2000 with the Richmond Speed of the af2. During the season he totaled 7 receptions for 78 yards and 2 touchdowns, 1 field goal return for a touchdown, 36 tackles (2.0 TFL), 14.5 sacks, 2 fumble recoveries, 6 forced fumbles, a blocked kick and 2 safeties.

He earned a job in the Arena Football League the following year with the Milwaukee Mustangs, but returned to Richmond in 2002 after the Mustangs folded. Rejoined with the Richmond Speed, Lewis again enjoyed success, with 4 receptions for 41 yards, 20.5 tackles (3.5 TFL), 3.5 sacks, 1 fumble returned 17 yards for a touchdown, 3 forced fumbles, 4 blocked kicks and a safety.

In 2003 Lewis had a rushing touchdown, 54 yards receiving, a kick return for 18 yards, 26 tackles (6 TFL), 6.0 sacks, 1 fumble recovery and 1 forced fumble.

The 2004 season saw Lewis join the Cape Fear Wildcats of the af2 where he had 6 receptions for 73 yards and 2 touchdowns, 1 interception, 20.5 tackles (2.0TFL), 2.5 sacks, 2 fumble recoveries, 1 forced fumble and 3 blocked kicks.

Lewis also spent 2005 and 2006 with the Richmond Bandits of the AIFL, helping to lead them to the championship in 2005. During the 2006 season, he led the league in sacks while anchoring the defensive line.

Lewis is a graduate of Virginia Tech, and was a part time starting defensive end for the 1995 Sugar Bowl Championship team.

Damon "Redd" Thompson - WR: Thompson been at all levels of professional football. He spent time in training camp with two NFL teams, The Baltimore Ravens and the Kansas City Chiefs. He began his professional career with the BC Lions of the Canadian Football League, seeing limited time. He followed up that season by joining the Indiana Firebirds of the AFL in 2002.

By 2003 he came to Richmond for the first time to play for the Richmond Speed of the af2, and responded with a monster season. Thompson totaled 122 receptions, 1569 yards and 27 touchdowns on his way to being named all af2, and the receiver of the year. He also added 10 field goal returns for 132 yards, 49 kickoff returns for 1100 yards and 2 touchdowns, as totaled 2797 all purpose yards, an average of 199.8 yards per game.

In 2005 Thompson joined the Richmond Bandits of the AIFL and had another great year with 45 receptions for 645 yards and 19 touchdowns. He was only able to play in 7 games for the year though as he was injured for the last 5 of the season.

Thompson's college career at Virginia State University was just as successful. By the time he graduated in 2001 he was the second all time leader in receiving yards in Division 2 history. Thompson, for his career, had 272 receptions for 4660 yards, an average of over 17 yards per reception. He added 50 career touchdowns to those numbers. Thompson finished his career as VSU's and the CIAA's all time leading receiver, totaled 9000 career All Purpose yards, was all conference in the CIAA in 1999, 2000, and 2001 and a Division 2 All American Kick Returner in 1999 and 2000.

Revolution Try-outs Announced: The Revolution also announced today that they will be holding open tryouts for the team. The tryouts will be held at the Sports Center of Richmond (SCOR) on Sunday, October 11, 2009 starting at 7 AM. The tryouts will be a combine style workout conducted by the Revolution coaching staff with assistance from Elkin Sports Performance (ESP). SportsQuest, a multi-level organization, is the newest member of the Indoor Football League. SportsQuest is in the process of building a 250 acre multi-purpose, multi-sport campus in the Chesterfield area of Virginia. The campus is designed to host athletics of all skill levels, from recreational to Olympic training. Among their plans is the creation of a 5,000 seat arena that will house hockey, basketball and indoor football. The arena will be up and running by 2011, but the expansion IFL franchise will begin play in 2010 at the Athur Ashe Athletic Center.
