Resilient Jackalopes Fall Just Short to Brahmas on Saturday

ODESSA, TX - Once again the Jackalopes showed great resiliency, once again they took a close game into the third period. But unfortunately, once again, Lone Star emerged the victor when all was said and done. The Odessa Jackalopes (8-24-2-3) fell 4-2 to the Lone Star Brahmas (26-11-1-0).

It was a slower start for the Jackalopes as Lone Star got on the board first after a shot-deflection in front. But Odessa weathered the storm and were able to get on the scoreboard thanks to a pass from the left corner found Joey Musa in the slot. Musa's shot deflected of goaltender Guy Blessing's shoulder and into the net to tie the game at 1-1. Musa's goal came on Odessa's first, and only, shot-on-goal of the first period.

The second saw the Brahmas regain thier lead off a power-play-goal but the Jackalopes stormed right back to tie once again. A three-on-two rush up the ice led by Tyler German found Ben Doherty right on the doorstep and the two-year veteran made no mistake as he buried a quick one-timer from in close to tie the game at 2-2.

The Jackalopes had a few chances to then take the lead in the second period while on a power play, none better then Jack Musa's wrap-around attempt that slid through the crease on a wide-open net.

Statistically speaking, the Jackalopes had thier best third period in several weeks, they out-shot the Brahmas 12-7 in the final frame and had many quality chances. But again, the third period was not friendly to the Jacks as Lone Star found the go-ahead goal midway though the third off a pass in front.

Once again, the Jackalopes looked to tie the contest up, as they had done in the previous two periods. Again they had many great chances on net, but there was no third comeback. Lone Star picked up an empty net goal in the final 17 seconds to seal a 4-2 victory and a weekend sweep of the Jackalopes.

When looking back on the weekend as a whole, and the entire five game series between the Jacks and the Brahmas, you can see that the Jackalopes are close to breaking out. They played arguably the best team in the South close four out of five nights, took them to a shootout once and could've arguably won two or three of those five games. Despite the final outcome, it is a step in the right direction as the Jackalopes host the New Mexico Ice Wolves next weekend at the JackShack.
