Reno Rally Comes up Short, Aces Fall 8-4

RENO, Nev. - The Reno Aces hung three runs in the bottom of the ninth, but came up short in an 8-4 loss to the Tacoma Rainiers tonight to split the series.

Reno fell behind early, with Jose Marmolejos hitting a three-run homer in the top of the first to make it an early 3-0 lead. Tacoma added a two-run home run in the third to make it 5-0.

The Aces broke up the shutout in the fifth inning with a solo bomb from Daulton Varsho that landed on the Jose Cuervo Cantina tent behind right field.

Tacoma added two more in the sixth, and one in the top of the ninth to make it 8-1 entering the home half.

Camden Duzenack led off the inning with a solo shot to make it 8-2. Josh VanMeter would go on to double to center field and scorer Andrew Young and Drew Ellis, making it 8-4.

The final gave Reno a series split, marking the fourth-straight series to start the season without a series loss.

Reno is off tomorrow, and will host the Sacramento River Cats on Thursday starting at 6:35 p.m. PT. Tickets are on sale at RenoAces.com or by texting TIXX to 21003.
