Today's Game: Six. Just six games remain at Greater Nevada Field this season. The Aces will take on the Salt Lake Bees tonight and tomorrow to cap off a four-game series. Taylor Clarke will make the start for Greg Gross tonight. Clarke enters with a record of 12-7 and an ERA of 4.07. Over his last 10 starts, the right-hander from the College of Charleston is 5-2 and has struck out 34 foes. He'll be opposed by former Aces right-hander Ivan Pineyro. Pineyro elected free agency last offseason and joined the Los Angeles Angels on a minor league contract.

Last Game: With one out, a runner on third base and a 2-1 count, Kevin Cron delivered the late-inning heroics for Reno. Cron's fielders choice scored Socrates Brito to finish a 3-run bottom of the 9th. Ildemaro Vargas led the way offensively, finishing 4-for-4 with two runs scored and a walk. The combination of Alex Young, Braden Shipley, Jake Barrett and Jimmie Sherfy held Salt Lake to one run on two hits in the final 4.1 innings. The win keeps the Aces 7 games back of first place and four games over .500.

D-backs number one prospect, Jon Duplantier, Jon Duplantier worked his magic in the early innings, stranding seven Montgomery runners on base with the help of some outstanding defensive plays. Marty Herum went 2-for-4 to extend his league-best hitting streak to 18 games.

The One On The Right Is On The Left: Switch-hitting Ildemaro Vargas loves facing right-handed pitching. When hitting from the left side of the plate (vs. right-handers), Vargas is batting .326 (112-for-344) with 13 doubles, 10 triples and three home runs. His OBP is up to .363 following last night's 4-for-4 performance. When on the other side of the plate (right), he's batting .266 with 10 doubles and two home runs.

Man In Black: Taylor Clarke prefers the dark. This season, tonight's starter is 10-2 in night games with a 3.33 ERA. In 16 night-time starts, he's struck out 77 batters and opponents are batting just .249. When the sun is high, Clarke is 2-5 in seven starts and has an ERA of 5.94. He's struck out just nine more than he's walked and opponents bat .259 against him.

Folsom Prison Blues: On this day in 2011, former Aces first baseman Mike Jacobs became the first professional baseball player to be suspended for testing positive for human growth hormone. The 30-year-old Rockies minor leaguer was handed a 50-game suspension for his involvement with HGH. The following year, Jacobs played 101 games with Reno and hit 18 home runs to go along with his .279 average. Jacobs returned to Reno in 2013 and 2014 and is the franchise leader in home runs with 55.

The game-one loss that day was a resumption from a contest played the night before, but suspended due to a haboob in the Las Vegas area. Reno has not lost three consecutive Sunday games this season.
