Ottawa Renegades News Release

OTTAWA – The Ottawa Renegades announced today that they have released veteran running back Darren Davis.

Davis, 26, appeared in six games for the Renegades this season, rushing for 298 yards on 60 carries. He also caught 13 passes for 172 yards. In 2002, Davis ran for 247 yards on 60 carries and gained 95 yards on 12 receptions before missing the balance of the season due to injury.

"Joe (coach Paopao) and his staff have rules and regulations that they expect all players to abide by," said Renegades general manager Eric Tillman, citing the veteran running back's unexcused absences from team meetings, practices and medical treatments. "In this situation, unfortunately, those rules were compromised and, as a result, the decision to release Darren was made."

Added Tillman: "We will go forward with great enthusiasm as this team continues to pursue our playoff aspirations."

The club also confirmed that two rookies, linebacker Chandler Smith and defensive back Mesene Louisdor, who had been with the club much of the 2003 season (both active and on the practice roster), are no longer with the team.
