Published on August 26, 2003 under Canadian Football League (CFL) News Release

OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK

QB - ANTHONY CALVILLO #13
MONTREAL ALOUETTES

Stats
Game #51 – Toronto 22 @ Montreal 46
28 comp. 34 att., 438 yards, 0 INT., LG 51., 4 TD passes.

The Cream of a Bountiful Crop
"Week 10 was exceptional for outstanding offensive performances. Calvillo, however, was the cream that rose to the top. He has the ability to see all of his receivers and time his passes with great accuracy. He appears to have a symbiotic relationship with the Montreal offence. Both he and his offence are getting better as the season enters it's second half. Montreal and Calvillo are the premier team in the league and can only beat themselves at this point."

1st Runner-Up: Dave Dickenson #12, BC Lions
2nd Runner-Up: Mike Pringle #34, Edmonton Eskimos

Judge: Bob Krouse

DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK

LB - BRIAN CLARK #48
WINNIPEG BLUE BOMBERS

Stats
Game #52 – Calgary 17 @ Winnipeg 52
2 INT (31 yds., 1 TD), 1 Tckl for Loss (1 yds.), 6 DT

Big Game Player
"Clark had impeccable timing and anticipation, evident by his two interceptions, one of which resulted in a touchdown. He showed his ability to slip blocks and explode into tackles. Clark played with intensity and recklessness. He is always good, but is at his best in big games."

1st Runner-Up: Da'shann Austin #24, BC Lions
2nd Runner-Up: Robert Grant #8, Edmonton Eskimos

Judge: Bob Krouse

LINEMAN OF THE WEEK

DE – DAVED BENEFIELD #56
WINNIPEG BLUE BOMBERS

Stats
Game #52 – Calgary 17 @ Winnipeg 52
1 Fumble Ret. (51 yds, 1 TD), 2 DT, 1 FF

Welcome to the 'Daved Benefield Show'
"Benefield put on a show which could have been called "How to speed rush an offensive tackle, beat him, strip the ball from the quarterback, pick it up and sprint for a touchdown". Benefield is a great up-field pass rusher, he is very hard to block. He has great technique and production. He shortens the time quarterbacks have to throw the ball. He is so consistent!"

1st Runner-Up: Dan Comiskey #67, Edmonton Eskimos
2nd Runner-Up: Bruce Beaton #62, Edmonton Eskimos

Judge: Bob Krouse

SPECIAL TEAMS PLAYER OF THE WEEK

WR – CRAIG YEAST #5
HAMILTON TIGER-CATS

Stats
Game #53 – Hamilton 25 @ BC 47
3 Punt Ret. (119 yards, LG 104, 1TD), 5 Kickoff Ret. (66 yards), 1 MFG Return (8 yds).

Yeast Rises
"Yeast is quickly becoming one of Hamilton's offensive threats. An experienced first year player who read and reacted well to the smallest of seams and exploded through them. The 'Cats appeared to play with more pride after he scored, despite being in a losing position. Hopefully Yeast can be a more an integral part of the offensive scheme as the season prgresses."

1st Runner-Up: Winston October #9, Edmonton Eskimos
2nd Runner-Up: Bashir Levingston #23, Toronto Argonauts

Judge: Bob Krouse
