Renegades receiver Yo Murphy teams up with Minto to help Boys and Girls Club

Ottawa Renegades News Release

OTTAWA - Ottawa Renegades receiver Yo Murphy was the team's leading receiver last year. If the veteran, who caught for over 1,000 yards (61 catches for 1,090 and six touchdowns), repeats the feat, the young people in the nation's capital will benefit as well.

Murphy has teamed up with Minto to launch the Dough from Yo and Minto program for the 2005 season. For every first down catch made at home, Murphy will donate $100 to the Boys and Girls Club of Ottawa, which Minto will match.

For the 34-year-old Murphy, who has been a member of Renegades since 2003 after a playing career in the National Football League, the partnership was a natural fit.

"I wanted to do something to put money in the community and I hope this will help the kids down at the Boys and Girls Club of Ottawa," said Murphy, who is getting set for Ottawa's Canada Day game against the Montreal Alouettes on Friday at 6 p.m. "The idea came to me last year when I went to the Boys and Girls Club with Kerry Joseph (the Renegades' starting quarterback, who also pours his own time and resources into a charitable effort for the organization) and we had a great time. I want to give back to this community, just like I do back home. These kids are our future and I just hope to help out a little bit. It sure would be great to have to write a big cheque after each game because that means everybody wins!"

Murphy re-signed with the Renegades over the off-season with a renewed hope to lead the team to success on and off the field. A leader in the locker room, Murphy has been a mentor to many of Ottawa's young receivers and leads by example on and off the field.

This latest initiative by the receiver is in addition to the Yo Murphy Foundation (http://www.yomurphy.com) - which he operates out of his native of Idaho supporting various charities and youth programs in the state.
