Ottawa Renegades News Release
OTTAWA - The Ottawa Renegades Football Club announced the launch Mardi Gras Madness in the south side upper deck at Frank Clair Stadium for home games this season at a special jersey unveiling ceremony in downtown Ottawa Wednesday evening.
Beginning with Friday's Canada Day showdown against the Montreal Alouettes (6 p.m.), female fans will get a chance to win $1,000 at each game. The announcement was made two nights before the Renegades home opener by team president Lonie Glieberman, who said he believes the latest promotion will more of a festive feel to the park.
"We want to make the stadium and enjoyable place to be and this will help make it a festive, fun environment for a key demographic of our fan base," said Glieberman. "We hope it will add to the atmosphere and that people will enjoy themselves.
"We also do know that some of our younger supporters and families may now not want to attend the game in upper region of the south section. We are aware that there may be those who took advantage of our successful $99 season ticket pass sale, purchasing tickets in the top deck behind our sidelines, and are now not interested in the Mardi Gras Madness promotion. So we are also opening and allowing access to nearly 3,000 additional north side seats in sections A, H and J for our loyal and dedicated fans to enjoy the game in a more family-friendly area of the park," added Glieberman.
The Mardi Gras style event will involve males being provided different colour beads to wear for each Ottawa contest played at home. The female collecting the most bead necklaces at the end of the day will win the $1,000 cash prize. The Mardi Gras promotion will ONLY be occurring in the upper deck of the south side - notorious for being the rowdy are of the stadium.
The South side upper deck and the three North side sections (A, H and J) are general admission seating - first come, first served for those with season ticket passes.
Fans attending the Canada Day game - no matter where they sit - can take advantage of free transportation to the stadium. Free shuttles will take fans from the heart of downtown Ottawa's Canada Day celebrations to Frank Clair Stadium as another courtesy for the supporters of the team making the trip to Lansdowne Park.
A pair of double-decker red buses will be transporting supporters back and forth from "Festival Plaza" (corner of Laurier Street and Elgin Street, adjacent to Ottawa City Hall) beginning at 3 p.m. The free shuttles will continue all afternoon until 5:45 p.m. - when the last bus will depart from the Parliament Hill region to the stadium in time for 6 p.m. kickoff.
"This is a way for us to ensure our fans enjoy themselves all day, and get the full Canada Day experience - to be around Parliament and the Market and the events in the heart of downtown, but also make sure that there is a service to get everyone to the park who would like to use the free buses," said Glieberman. "Anyone who wants to go to the game from downtown can jump on the shuttle and we want to allow people many opportunities to get to the stadium as possible."
The safe mode of transportation for fans is a Renegades initiative that is also designed to make traffic safe to and from the stadium on July 1.
The Renegades open the home portion of the 2005 regular season on Canada Day when Ottawa hosts the Montreal Alouettes. Tickets are available either at the Renegades ticket office (1015 Bank Street), on the Internet (http://www.capitaltickets.ca), by phone (613.599.3267 or 877.788.3267), any Sports Experts location in the Ottawa and Gatineau regions as well as the Corel Centre Box Office in Kanata.
