Ottawa Renegades News Release
KEMPTVILLE â The Ottawa Renegades Football Club practiced indoors for the second straight afternoon during day two of the team's 2005 training camp at Kemptville College.
Following a morning session outside, the team was forced into the W.B. George Centre Gymnasium following mid-afternoon thundershowers.
Without pads, the team still was able to go through many of the drills and mechanics as the coaching staff continues to install and teach material to the players.
TRANSACTIONS: In addition to defensive back Greg Moss, the Renegades also added Canadian fullback Gilles Lezi, a second round draft pick of the Edmonton Eskimos in 2004 (10th overall). Lezi played 14 regular season games and the playoff semi-final last year... Syniker Taylor, a second-year linebacker, was placed on the team's suspended list, said Renegades head coach and general manager Joe Paopao. "We will re-evaluate him at the end of the week," said Paopao, who indicated Taylor was gone due to personal reasons and is still in the region.
LIMITED ACTION: Cornerback Crance Clemons, punter/kicker Matt Kellett, quarterback Tyler Paopao, receiver Darryl Ray as well as offensive linemen Val St-Germain and Christian Leibl-Cote did not practice the entire day... Receiver Bashir Yamini returned to practice after leaving the morning practice (quad)... The diagnosis on Leibl-Cote is a left knee injury that after swelling Monday appears as if it will need a scope. The Renegades second ! round draft pick from 2004 (in his first training camp) could be sidelined for 4-6 weeks....
NEWS AND NOTES: Injuries to St. Germain and Leibl-Cote has the Renegades searching for replacements. The head coach and general manager said that Mike Homewood, who has been on and off Ottawa's roster since 2002, and American Reggie Nelson, who played with Renegades quarterback Kerry Joseph at McNeese State during their college days, are on the team's radar...
SOUNDING OFF: Here are some of Joe Paopao's thoughts after on the running back battle in training camp between incumbent veteran Josh Ranek (two-time 1,000-yard rusher) and newcomers Ka'Ron Coleman and Herbert Goodman...
"Ka'Ron is an inside, sneaky kind of running back. Goodman comes at you with speed and is deceptive with that strong side. And don't forget about the little ball," said Paopao, referring to Ranek, nicknamed âThe Little Ball of Hate.'
"Cory Hathaway has also done a very good job blocking for us," said Paopao, referring to the team's fourth round draft pick out of Tulsa.
