Renegades add another two players to training camp roster

Ottawa Renegades News Release

KEMPTVILLE – The Ottawa Renegades Football Club added import defensive back Greg Moss to the team's training camp roster Monday. The former Florida International University Golden Panthers starter reported late Sunday night and after passing a physical the next morning, reported to the team's afternoon practice at Kemptville College. Ottawa also added Gilles Lezi, a non-import fullback with CFL experience.

Moss, a 22-year-old native of Miami will give the Ottawa secondary a boost. With the absence of Leonard Myers, an American now on the suspended list after not arriving to camp, Crance Clemons (injured) and Hassan Probherbs (retired), both not suiting up, the 5-foot-7, 175-pound rookie will get a good look by the Renegades ! coaches.

"Our coaches worked Greg out at a free agent camp we held in Florida (over the off-season) and the coaches really liked his talent level," said Joe Paopao, head coach and general manager of the Renegades. "We liked his quickness and speed and he comes from a good football pedigree."

Moss had 101 career tackles in three years with the Golden Panthers and also had three interceptions during his time with Florida International University. A physical education major, Moss is cousins with Washington Redskins receiver Santana Moss.

Moss hit the field for the first time as a Renegade Monday afternoon – the second full day of practice during the 2005 training camp.

Lezi, 25, inked a deal with Ottawa after being released from Edmonton over the off-season. The 10th overall draft pick (second round) from the 2004 Canadian College Draft watched practice Monday morning, and passed a physical in the afternoon and . Homewood, who was on and off the Ottawa practice roster in 2004, also re-joined his former teammates Tuesday for the third day of practices at the 2005 training camp.

Lezi, who is a native of the Dominican Republic and now calls Laval, Quebec his hometown, initially joined the Edmonton Eskimos after being selected early out of Northwestern University last April, played 14 regular season games and the playoff semi-final against Saskatchewan in his first season in the CFL. The 25-year-old was a free agent pick-up for Ottawa after Edmonton released him during the off-season – following the signing of former Renegades fullback Mike Maurer.

Lezi joins Les Mullings, Lloyd Orris and Sean Bennett as Ottawa fullbacks.

The Renegades will continue training camp this week with two-a-day practice sessions at Kemptville College (9 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. starts).
