Renegades Players Gauthier and Vilimek Share Draft Day Memories
April 23, 2003 - Canadian Football League (CFL)
Ottawa Renegades News Release
OTTAWA - Ottawa Renegades offensive lineman Alexandre Gauthier remembers the moments leading up to the 2002 CFL Canadian College Draft.
"My friends and I were locked in front of the computer for the Internet simulcast of the draft, and anxiously waited for the beginning of the draft to be announced," writes Gauthier in a letter he prepared for the Canadian Football League and the Renegades. "We did not have long to wait for the first name to appear: Alexandre Gauthier of Laval University. I was completely ecstatic. I couldn't believe it. I thought it was a joke."
It was no joke that the dedication and hard work Gauthier had endured paid huge dividends when the Renegades chose him with the first pick of the 2002 draft.
As the CFL prepares for the 2003 CFL Canadian College Draft on Wednesday, April 30, many of last year's draftees are sharing their draft-day memories on the league's website (www.cfl.ca).
Gauthier, a resident of Quebec City, and Renegades fullback Mike Vilimek, of North Vancouver, B.C., the second overall choice in 2002, have prepared draft-day articles which appear on the CFL website, and on the Renegades official website (www.ottawarenegades.net).
