Hudson Valley Renegades News Release

ABERDEEN, Md. - The Hudson Valley Renegades dropped a heartbreaker to the Aberdeen IronBirds 2-1 on Thursday night at Leidos Field.

For the second straight night, Hudson Valley got a scoreless performance from its starting pitcher. Beck Way shut down the IronBirds across 5.0 stellar innings. Way scattered four hits and one walk, striking out seven in his outing.

The Renegades took the lead in the top of the third when Everson Pereira grounded into a fielder's choice groundout, and a throwing error by A.J. Graffanino allowed Aaron Palensky to score from second base to give Hudson Valley a 1-0 lead.

Pereira finished the game 0-for-3 with a walk, extending his on-base streak to 14 consecutive games, the longest by a Renegade this season. Overall, the 21-year-old outfielder has reached base safely in 37 of the 41 games he has played this year.

Carlos Gomez threw two perfect innings of relief in back of Way before running into trouble in the bottom of the eighth. After an error and two walks loaded the bases with no outs, Terrin Vavra lifted a sac fly to center to tie the game. Later in the inning, a wild pitch thrown by Ryan Miller allowed a second run to score and give the IronBirds a 2-1 lead.

The runs scored in the eighth by Aberdeen brought an end to a 19.2 inning shutout streak by the Renegades pitching staff dating back to Tuesday night's series opener. Both runs were unearned, Hudson Valley has still not allowed an earned run in its last 20.2 defensive innings.

Xavier Moore set the Renegades down 1-2-3 in the ninth to earn his fourth save of the season.

Hudson Valley continues its series with Aberdeen on Friday night at Leidos Field. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. Coverage on the Renegades Baseball Network begins at 6:45. RHP Blas Castaño (0-4, 3.41) gets the start for the Renegades.

POSTGAME NOTES: At 2:08, Thursday's game was the shortest game of the season played by Hudson Valley. It was the fifth game of the season that took less than 2:15 to play, and the third in the Renegades' last four.
