FISHKILL, N.Y. (June 29, 2009) - The Renegades lost their third game in a row, 9-1, to the Brooklyn Cyclones in front of 5,049 fans at Dutchess Stadium Monday night.
Renegades' Chris Murrill continued to swing a hot bat recording a 2-for-4 night, with a run scored and one stolen base. The stolen base increases Murrill's total to six on the season with five of the stolen bases coming in as many games. The Renegades stole three bases as a team on the night bringing the team total to 15 on the season.
In Renegades fashion they took an early lead plating a run in the home half of the first. Murrill led the Renegades off with a single to right field and advanced 90 feet on his sixth stolen base of the season. After advancing to third on a Burt Reynolds strikeout Brett Nommensen singled letting Murrill cross home recording the first run of the game giving the Renegades a 1-0 lead.
The Cyclones knotted the game up at one run apiece in the visiting half of the fourth. Matt Bouchard led the Cyclones off with a single to right field. Bouchard slowly made his way around the diamond advancing to second on a throwing error by the first baseman David Genao and then stealing third base. With two outs, and Bouchard on third Luis Rivera hit a double into right field to bring the score to one run apiece.
The Cyclones starter Brandon Moore (2-0, 0.64) dominated the Renegades hurling seven innings of three-hit, one run baseball en route to his second win of the season. Moore struck out nine Renegades batters on the night while retiring 17 batters in a row.
Renegades starter Aaron Dott (0-1, 4.32) recorded five innings of work allowing one run to score on two hits. Reliever Angel Chapa came into the game and hurled one inning of five-hit, three-run baseball recording his first loss of the season.
The Cyclones offense pulled away starting in the sixth inning plating two runs. Brooklyn's offense did not stop there as they etched two more runs in the seventh and four more knocks in the ninth to bring the score to its final, 9-1.
The Renegades head back to Brooklyn tomorrow night to finish up the three-game series. The Renegades will be sending Kyle Ayers (1-0, 0.00) to the mound with the first pitch slated for 7:00 p.m.
The Renegades gave away their own bailout Monday night to one lucky fan. Bill Giesler won the Renegades Bailout and will have his mortgage paid for one month. Contestants had to compete in on-field contest to win the bailout and Giesler emerged victorious.
"It's so cool someone is going to pay my mortgage," said Giesler. "I wish it was more!"
