Ottawa Renegades News Release

OTTAWA – The Ottawa Renegades Football Club announced the signing of two defensive players Tuesday.

The Renegades inked linebacker D'Wayne Taylor and defensive back Sean Weston to contracts, each for a year (plus an option).

Taylor, a native of Oakland, played his college football at New Mexico State before being a member of the Saskatchewan Roughriders for the past two seasons. Over his four year college career, Taylor led his team in tackles twice. In 45 games he recorded 141 unassisted tackles, 11 sacks and 5 interceptions. The 6-foot, 195-pounder was a first team all-Sun Belt Conference in 2001.

Taylor, 25, graduated with a degree in journalism and mass communications.

"D'Wayne played with Saskatchewan the last two years and is almost an exact clone of Reggie Hunt. He has tremendous speed and learned from a clone of one of the top linebackers in the league," said Joe Paopao, Renegades General Manager and Head Coach. "D'Wayne has athleticism and understands the game well."

Weston, another import, was recognized for his ability to tackles opponents in the open field at Texas A&M – where he was a four-year starter. A native of Inglewood, Calif., the 23-year-old had his best season as a senior. In his final campaign, the 5-foot-10, 185-pound defensive back recorded 35 unassisted tackles. Weston spent part of 2004 with the NFL's Kansas City Chiefs.

"Sean has the quickness you look for and he's an agile type of guy," said Paopao. "He's an inside type of defensive back and has good feet. He played at a high level of competition and understands how to play football."
