
CFL Makes its Mark in Atlantic Canada

Halifax, Nova Scotia â CFL Commissioner Tom Wright and Events Halifax Chairman Fred MacGillivray, today unveiled staging plans for the June 11th game between celebrated rivals, the Hamilton Tiger-Cats and the Toronto Argonauts. Supporting the announcement at the World Trade & Convention Centre was 2004 Coach of the Year Greg Marshall, Hamilton Tiger-Cats slotback Mike Morreale and Grey Cup Champion Toronto Argonaut Mike O'Shea.
"It's great to be back in Atlantic Canada with our partners Events Halifax to share in the celebration of this exciting initiative as an important step in furthering the growth of our League," said Commissioner Tom Wright. "Atlantic Canada is embracing the CFL and today, we are excited to announce our specific plans to share the CFL game experience with Halifax."
Included in the announcement was the unveiling of the official event name, âTouchdown Atlantic', chosen from more than 700 entries received from CFL fans in a national name the game contest through www.cfl.ca. Also unveiled was a new logo for the June 11th game, celebrating Atlantic Canada and its communities' pride and passion toward Canadian football.
"We're looking forward to adding the CFL Exhibition Game to the Halifax slate of great events," stated MacGillivray. "This will be fun â there's no place in Canada like Nova Scotia in early summer. Early support is strong - people here love good events, and we know they are going to enjoy this."
The game will be played at a reconfigured Huskies Stadium, transformed with temporary seating to accommodate more than 10,000 fans, with grandstands circling the Omni Turf playing surface. Broadcast live nationally on TSN, kick-off is scheduled for 8:00pm AT / 7:00pm ET.
Surrounding the game, Events Halifax will be hosting a number of CFL Festival events including a Friday-night kickoff party, a schools program, open team practices with player autograph opportunities and a pre-game festival on Saturday, June 11. More details about these events are forthcoming.
Touchdown Atlantic has garnered the attention and support of major local and national partners including Molson Canada, Subway, Atlantic Lottery Corporation, Sony, CanJet, Halifax International Airport Authority, Frito-Lay, Purolator and Farmers Dairy. Tickets go on sale on April 8, 2005 and are available at the Halifax Metro Centre Box Office Monday through Friday 11am to 5pm or charge by phone (902) 451-1221. Ticket prices are $40.00 and $62.50.
