Renegades Announce Signing of Special Teams Coordinator/Running Backs Coach

The Ottawa Renegades Head Coach John Jenkins announced today the signing of new Special Teams Coordinator / Running Backs Coach Danny Palmer. Danny Palmer will enter into his 35th year of coaching, bringing another long term coaching veteran to the Ottawa Renegades Coaching staff. Coach Palmer has coached College level football in the United States including stops at Texas Southern and the University of Houston as the Special Teams Coordinator and University of Houston. He coached for the University of Houston Cougars for eight seasons serving a various capacities including Special Teams, Running Backs, Linebackers and Recruiting Coordinator. He coached at the Texas Arlington while serving in the role of Special Teams, Linebackers and Recruiting Coordinator.

Coach Palmer coached additionally at Eastern Oklahoma State University as Defensive Coordinator as well as Special Teams Coordinator. He coached at Austin Peay University working with the Special Teams and Offensive units. Palmer has also seen coaching action as an Offensive Coordinator at North West Mississippi Junior College.

Coach Palmer will now add a "triple step" to the already Texas duo of Forrest Gregg and John Jenkins. As the Texas native also brings seventeen years of Head Coaching experience from the state of Texas in the prep ranks at programs in Houston, San Antonio Bonham Pampa, Waco and Tex-arkana. Coach Palmer began his coaching career as an assistant coach at Hattiesburg High School in Mississippi fresh off of completion of his college playing career at the University of Southern Mississippi. Renegades Head Coach John Jenkins stated: " I am highly excited about Danny Palmer joining me at Ottawa in the Canadian Football League. Danny's entry into pro football is long overdue as he is clearly one of the finest, most complete coaches in all of football at any level. He is a relentless dedicated worker who makes big things happen quick. I first coached against Danny Palmer over thirty years ago and I then predicted and knew that he was headed to a long brilliant career in the coaching profession. "Coach Jenkins added: " I will be very reliant in delegating to Coach Palmer as our Special Teams Coordinator. He is an action packed, high energy coach and I expect our new Special Teams units at Ottawa to obtain and remain in a new status of an intense attack mode."

Coach Palmer stated: " I am more excited and enthused than I have ever been in my entire coaching career about this opportunity. Coach Danny Palmer is a highly decorated veteran coach as he has been nominated for numerous Coach of the Year awards as well as being the 1999 University of Houston nominee for the Frank Broyles award, which is awarded to the nations top assistant football coach of major college football. Danny Palmer as a college coach was responsible for evaluating and recruiting a great number of athletes who have gone on to start in pro football including CFL star and Tyler Texas Geoffery Reynolds of the Calgary Stampeders whom Palmer recruited at the University of Houston, and signed and coached there. At the U of H Palmer worked with John Jenkins and Kim Helton where they were highly successful. Coach John Jenkins will utilize the versatile role as coach Palmer will also be active for the Renegades in player personnel and scouting.

Danny Palmer originally grew up in the East Texas town of Tyler. He played QB for the University Of Southern Mississippi Golden Eagles where in his senior year he was part of the team that upset Archie Manning's Ol' Miss Rebel team and in-state rival 30-14. Danny is married to Sharon Palmer and have two daughters: Stacie and Bethany and one grandson Miles.
