Published on February 17, 2006 under Canadian Football League (CFL) News Release

Toronto, ON (February 17, 2006) - The Canadian Football League (CFL) and Scotiabank today called on Canadian football fans to select the Scotiabank Fan Pick for the 2005 Coach of the Year. This year's Scotiabank CFL Coach of the Year Celebration is being held at the Fairmont Royal York in Toronto on February 23rd and marks the first year the event has had a title partner.

The Scotiabank CFL Coach of the Year finalists for 2005 include Michael ‘Pinball' Clemons (Toronto Argonauts), Tom Higgins (Calgary Stampeders) and Danny Maciocia (Edmonton Eskimos). The Annis Stukus trophy will be awarded to the winner as selected by the Football Reporters of Canada in recognition of the CFL head coach who most demonstrates exceptional leadership, discipline and dedication to excellence during the CFL regular season. In addition, Scotiabank and the CFL are offering fans a chance to make their own Coach of the Year picks through an online poll at www.cfl.ca. Scotiabank will also provide a cash prize to the charity of choice of the 2005 Scotiabank Online Fan Pick for Coach of the Year.

"As a national League partner, Scotiabank's participation in our Coach of the Year Celebration further demonstrates their commitment not only to the CFL, but to the communities across Canada in which we operate," said CFL Chief Marketing Officer, Brent Scrimshaw. "We are proud to have Scotiabank join us as we recognize the tremendous efforts and accomplishments of our head coaches, in support of community-centric initiatives such as the ‘Stop the Violence' - The Argos Foundation."

"We're very proud to expand our partnership with the CFL and to be a part of the Coach of the Year Celebration which centres on the importance of leadership both on and off the field," said Barb Mason, Scotiabank Executive Vice-President, Marketing, Sales and Service. "While the Annis Stukus trophy is the highlight of the February 23rd event, we're also pleased to recognize the fans' pick and provide their choice for 2005 Coach of the Year with an opportunity to help out a worthy community charity."

Scotiabank and the CFL will be also joined by League MOP Damon Allen, his brother, NFL Hall-of-Famer Marcus Allen, and their father, Harold Allen Sr. as keynote speakers to address the important role that leadership and mentorship play in the lives of today's youth. A portion of the event proceeds will support ‘Stop the Violence' - The Argos Foundation, an initiative launched by the Toronto Argonauts in August 2005.
