DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. -- Javan Camon will be remembered for his spirit and determination by the World Indoor Football League.
Camon, a defensive back for the Daytona Beach Thunder, died Monday night. He was 25.
At a media briefing held at the DBCC Public Broadcasting 15 studios Tuesday, officials from the league and the Thunder expressed their thoughts and feelings.
"The World Indoor Football League and the indoor football community offer their prayers and support for the family of Javon,'' said WIFL commissioner Gary Tufford. "The remainder of the season will be dedicated to his honor. He was a great kid and a great player."
Head Coach Leon Bright spoke about Camon as a player and a person. He told the press that he and his wife, Tammy, could tell that this guy was something special. The one thing that will always stick in his mind, talked about, was the fact that Camon's birthday was the same as his daughter's.
Thunder CEO Zack McDonald thought of Camon as "part of the family."
McDonald noted that Camon was an outstanding player and that he was "awesome." He acknowledged Camon's work mentality, saying that when it came to working to improve, he "just did more."
