DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. -- Reaction to the death of Daytona Beach defensive back Javan Camon came from entire football community Tuesday.
His college coach, Jim Leavitt of South Florida, had fond memories of Camon.
"My heart aches for Javan and his family," says USF head coach Jim Leavitt. "I thought an awful lot of Javan. He had a great spirit and a great energy, and he was always fun to be around. Javan did a great job for us at South Florida both as a player and as a leader. The fact that he was elected as a team captain shows how much his teammates respected him. He will be missed tremendously by everyone who has ever known him."
Fans of the competing American Indoor Football Association send regards.
"On behalf of the fans in the American Indoor Football Association, please accept our condolences on the loss of Javan Camon," wrote Ron Duff, a regular contributor to a fan message board of that league. "We are shocked and saddened by his loss as is the entire indoor football community."
Officials from the Arena Football League sent a message expressing "condolences from our entire Arena Football Family and the tragic death of your player-he and his family are in all of our prayers."
