Reign FC Selects Amanda Frisbie in First Round of NWSL College draft

SEATTLE - Jan. 17, 2014 - Seattle Reign FC selected defender Amanda Frisbie from the University of Portland with the seventh overall pick in Friday's NWSL College draft. Frisbie was a semifinalist for the MAC Hermann Trophy and a NSCAA First Team All-American in 2013- Portland's first All-American since 2009.

Frisbie made the transition from forward to defender in 2013 and still finished second on the team in goals with eight. The Pilot started in all 20 of her appearances totaling 1,710 minutes. Frisbie's standout senior campaign earned her First Team All-WCC and WCC Defender of the Year honors.

"I'm so excited to be a part of this organization," said Frisbie. "Seattle is exactly where I wanted to be."

During her first three years as a forward, Frisbie totaled 23 goals, including a team-leading 12 goals in her junior year. The McKinney, Texas native was one of three Pilots to start every game in 2012 and tied for the team lead in assists with nine. Frisbie became the 16th player in Portland history to net four goals in a game, doing so in a 5-0 win against Fresno State.

"We've had our eye on Amanda since we saw her play against the Thorns in pre-season. We are thrilled with the pick," said GM and head coach Laura Harvey.

Reign FC also selected defender Megan Brigman from the University of North Carolina with the 17th overall pick and Ellen Parker from the University of Portland with the 30th overall pick.

Brigman made 25 appearances with 24 starts as a red shirt senior in 2013. The defender led North Carolina in assists with seven, after having only two assists in her first three years as a Tar Heel. Brigman also led the team in minutes played for the third time, logging 2,204 total minutes. No other Tar Heel topped 2,000 minutes in 2013.

During her junior season in 2011, Brigman scored a career-high five goals. The defender was forced to redshirt in 2012 after breaking her leg just minutes into the season opener against the University of Portland. Brigman was able to return to 100% for her standout redshirt senior n Parker

Selection: Round 3, Pick 30

Parker set career marks with seven goals and four assists for the Pilots during her senior campaign in 2013. The midfielder started in all 20 matches that she played in, logging 1,651 minutes along the way. All seven of Parker's goals were game-winners, three more than the next closest Pilot. Parker's numbers earned her a spot on the 2013 All-WCC First Team.
