NWSL Announces Complete Results of 2014 College Draft

January 17, 2014 - National Women's Soccer League (NWSL) News Release


CHICAGO (Jan. 17, 2014) - The Washington Spirit selected University of North Carolina and U.S. Women's National Team midfielder Crystal Dunn with the first overall pick in the 2014 NWSL College Draft on Friday at the NSCAA Convention in Philadelphia.

The Houston Dash used the second overall pick on midfielder/forward Keali Ohai from the University of North Carolina. The Chicago Red Stars, who had back-to-back picks, chose midfielders Julie Johnston from Santa Clara University and Vanessa DiBernardo from University of Illinois with the third and fourth overall selections.

FC Kansas City went with defender Kassey Kallman from Florida State University by way of the fifth pick and Sky Blue FC took forward Maya Hayes from Penn State with the sixth overall selection. Seattle Reign FC, Boston Breakers and Western New York Flash selected defender Amanda Frisbie from University of Portland, forward Nkem Ezurike from University of Michigan and defender Courtney Verloo from Stanford University with the seventh, eighth and ninth selections, respectively.

In addition, the NWSL approved three trades on Friday with each one involving the Thorns FC.

Trades:

*Portland traded the 2nd pick of the 2nd round and a player to be named later to Houston for Meleana Shim; (Portland pick via SRFC/WAS)

*Portland traded 7th pick in the 4th round and their 2nd round pick in the 2015 college draft to Boston for Michelle Betos.

*Washington Spirit trades 4th pick in the 4th round to Portland Thorns FC for Tiffany Weimer (Washington pick via SRFC / CRS)
