SEATTLE - Jan. 8, 2014 - Seattle Reign FC announced Wednesday the list of players who are protected from selection in the NWSL Expansion Draft, which will take place this Friday, Jan. 10 at 8 a.m. PT.

As a result of missing the playoffs in the 2013 NWSL season, Reign FC will be permitted to protect 10 players. Teams that made the NWSL playoffs in 2013 will be allowed to protect only nine players.

The NWSL also mandated that any team with more than two US allocated players leave a minimum of one US allocated player unprotected and eligible for selection by Houston in the expansion draft. Reign FC currently has four US allocated players: goalkeeper Hope Solo, forward Megan Rapinoe, forward Sydney Leroux and defender Stephanie Cox. Reign FC has elected to leave Steph Cox unprotected.

"Given our efforts to rebuild the squad during the off season, we would be gutted to lose any player from our roster," said head coach and GM Laura Harvey. "These were extremely difficult decisions to make, as we had planned for every player now on our roster to be with us for the 2014 season."

The Houston Dash can select 10 players in the Expansion Draft, including up to two US allocated players, one Canadian allocated player and one Mexican allocated player. Houston may select up to two players from Seattle, except if the first Seattle player selected is a US allocated player, in which case Houston will not be permitted additional selections from Seattle.
