Reid to Join Canada at Spengler Cup

Today, the Manitoba Moose, in conjunction with the Vancouver Canucks and Hockey Canada, announced forward Brandon Reid will join Team Canada for the Spengler Cup in Davos, Switzerland from December 26th-December 31st, 2006.

Reid, 25, is currently the fourth-leading scorer on the Moose with eight goals and 10 assists for 18 points in 27 games. The Kirkland, PQ native is also currently riding a three-game points streak which has seen him collect four points (2G,2A) in that time. In his six-year pro career, Reid has played in 234 games with the Moose and has scored 63 goals and 104 assists for 167 points 55 penalty minutes. Reid was the team's leading scorer back in 2003-04 and 2002-03. In 10 career NHL games with the Canucks, he has two goals and four assists for six points.

Reid becomes the third player in consecutive years to join Canada for the Spengler Cup, as goaltender Alex Auld helped backstop Canada to a silver medal in 2004, while defenceman Brett Skinner also won silver with Team Canada in 2005. The Spengler Cup is the oldest continual club tournament the world, dating back to 1923. Canada has competed since 1984 and has won 10 titles in that time.

Reid will be joined on Team Canada by former Manitoba Moose Josh Holden (2001-02) and Jason Doig (2005).
