Atlanta Silverbacks News Release

NEW YORK - The Atlanta Silverbacks (2-5-5, 11 points) first win of the Fall Season has accomplished a lot already- including placing the team in the fifth position in the Fall table, seeing midfielder Michael Reed nominated for NASL Play of the Week and earning Reed and backliner Paul Black NASL Team of the Week honors. The League announced the weekly recipients on Wednesday.

For Reed, it's his first Team of the Week recognition since joining the Silverbacks this season. Black earned his second, also receiving the award for his Week 7 performance.

Both players served vital capacities in the Silverbacks game-winning goal. Black singed the left touchline on a tilt into the Silverbacks' final third. From there, the 25-year-old Englishman delivered a 60-yard cross that switched the play for Atlanta. Forward Jaime Chavez settled the pass and fed an on-rushing Reed for the one-timed lazer into the net.

"I was just thinking, 'Keep it low, keep it on frame and maybe make the keeper make a save,'" Reed said of the goal. "I ended up putting a pretty good strike on it."

For Reed, it was his first goal since a 2013 strike against the Tampa Bay Rowdies.

Both Reed and Black contributed a full 90-minute shift in the Silverbacks new-look 3-5-2 formation - with Black playing slightly out of position as an outside center back. Reed featured in his natural No. 8 role, directing the five-man midfield in an attack-minded shape.

The Silverbacks next face a four-match away spell with matches at Fort Lauderdale (July 18), Ottawa (July 22), Edmonton (July 26) and Indy (Aug. 1). They return to Atlanta Silverbacks Park on Aug. 5 to host Fort Lauderdale, presented by Univision.
