Fort Myers Mighty Mussels News Release
FORT MYERS -- The Fort Myers Miracle were shut out for just the fourth time this season in a 5-0 Sarasota Reds victory at Hammond Stadium.
With Deolis Guerra promoted to Double-A, Henry Arias was called upon to make the spot start. The right-hander, making his first start since the 2007 season, lasted four innings and allowed two earned runs. Unfortunately, Fort Myers couldn't get much going on offense. The team went 0-for-6 with runners in scoring position and left ten on base.
Arias (1-3) left with a line of 4 IP, 5 H, 2 ER, 2 BB, and 2 SO. Jeremy Horst (5-8) earned his fifth victory with a scoreless five and two-thirds of four-hit, shutout ball. He walked four and struck out four. Relivers Joseph Krebs and Josh Beal kept the shutout intact.
Ben Revere was the only Miracle to collect more than one hit as he finished 2-for-5. Jeremy Reed went 3-for-5 with a triple and RBI out of the leadoff spot for the visitors.
Fort Myers hadn't been shut out since Brevard County blanked the Miracle 5-0 in back-to-back games on June 1 and June 2 at Space Coast Stadium.
Left-hander Michael Tarsi was promoted from Beloit and will start Friday's game three. Joe Benson (broken hand) was activated from the disabled list before the game but didn't appear.
Steve Hirschfeld looks to even the series on Thursday night at 7:05 p.m.
