RedHawks re-sign Wayment, sign Trumble and Cotton

FARGO, N.D. - The Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks have re-signed SS Kory Wayment and signed OF Dan Trumble and RHP Nate Cotton, the Northern League club announced today. Wayment, Trumble and Cotton will be in Fargo when the RedHawks open training camp on May 3.

Wayment, 26, joined the RedHawks for the 2006 season and was the club's everyday shortstop on their march to the Northern League championship. He batted .231 with 12 doubles, four triples, 27 RBIs and 50 runs scored in 95 games. In the playoffs, Wayment recording game-winning hits in three of the RedHawks six victories. He batted .250 in six post-season games, with two doubles, a triple and four RBIs.

Defensively, Wayment posted a .956 fielding percentage, committing 22 errors in a league-high 504 total chances. He also recorded a league-high 333 assists. Wayment is entering his seventh season of professional baseball. The Ogden, Utah native was drafted by the Oakland Athletics organization and spent 5+ seasons with the club.

Trumble, 26, joins the RedHawks after missing the 2006 season due to injury. He previously spent six seasons in the San Francisco Giants organization after being drafted out of the University of San Francisco in 2000. Trumble averaged over 16 home runs per season from 2001-04, including a career-high 26 in 2001 while playing for Hagerstown of the South Atlantic League (A). He is a career .235 hitter with 90 doubles, nine triples, 90 home runs and 267 RBIs.

Cotton, 27, was acquired by Fargo-Moorhead from Nashua of the Can-Am League this winter for C Allen Mottram. Pitching for Schaumburg in 2006, Cotton was 1-1 with a 0.68 ERA and was second in the Northern League with 17 saves. He pitched 26.2 innings, allowing five runs (two earned) on 12 hits. Cotton struck out 32 batters, walked nine and held opponents to a .135 batting average against him. He was selected to pitch for the East Division at the Northern League All-Star Game.

Cotton originally signed with the Cincinnati Reds organization in 2000 after completing his college career at Kennesaw (Ga.) State University. He signed with Schaumburg in June of 2005 and in two seasons with the Flyers he posted a 4-2 record with a 1.81 ERA and 28 saves. Cotton has held the Northern League to a .154 batting average against him in two seasons.
