Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks News Release
In a game that lasted 3:28, the Kansas City T-Bones were too much for the RedHawks and found themselves victorious 15-9. Both teams are now 21-21 on the season.
Jim Fasano opened up the scoring for the T-Bones in the first with a two-run homer just fair over the right field wall, a hit that was initially ruled foul but overruled by the home plate umpire. The RedHawks responded in the bottom of the inning. With zero outs, Ruben Salazar crushed a three-run homer over right center to put the RedHawks up 3-2. Pitcher Zac Stott found himself in a pickle with no outs and the bases loaded with Mortimer up to bat. The T-Bones were able to turn a double play and strike out Joe Mathis to retire the inning.
Salazar and the RedHawks kept putting the hammer down in the second. Salazar knocked an RBI double to the warning track in center field and Castillo had an RBI single to left to give the RedHawks a commanding 6-2 lead. The T-Bones fought back in the third when Fasano hit a three-run homer over center field. It was his second homerun and fifth RBI of the night. Fellow T-Bone, Aharon Eggleston, decided to notch a home run of his own and knot the score at six. Three innings was all Todd George was able to work in his first night back at Newman Outdoor Field this season. Lawson relieved him after three. The T-Bones regained the lead in the fourth when Rob Watson ripped a two-run single up the middle. Watson stole third and advanced to home on a throwing error by C Alan Rick increasing the T-Bone lead to three.
Boomer Berry scored on an RBI ground-out by Salazar and Rick brought the RedHawks within one when he knocked one just fair over the right field wall. The T-Bones pulled away, scoring three runs in the sixth and three in the seventh making the score 15-8. The RedHawks were only able to tack on one more run, dropping the first game of the series 15-9.
Game two of the three game series is set for 7 p.m. at Newman Outdoor Field on Wednesday. Pitching for the RedHawks is RH Billy Weitzman (1-0, 7.20) and the T-Bones will reply with RH Anthony Snow (1-2, 8.15)
