FARGO, ND- The Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks (41-32) erased a 6-2 Joliet lead with six runs over the 6th and 7th innings to earn a 9-6 win over the Joliet JackHammers (26-49) before 3,432 fans at Newman Outdoor Field on Saturday night.
The RedHawks scored single runs in the 1st and 2nd innings against Joliet RHP Rory Shortell. SS Zach Penprase (2-4) hit a solo home run over the right field wall in the 1st inning for a 1-0 lead.
In the 2nd inning, 1B Randall Simon (3-4) hit a leadoff single. RF Jeremiah Piepkorn (1-4) reached base on a fielder's choice that retired Simon at second base. 2B Carlo Cota (1-2) hit a single to move Piepkorn to second base.
LF Justin Justice (2-4) hit a double to left field to score Piepkorn for a 2-0 Fargo-Moorhead lead.
The JackHammers took the lead with three runs in the 4th inning. SS Kevin Rios (2-5) and 3B Vince Harrison (3-5) led off the inning with singles.
DH Brad Correll (3-5) drove in both runners with a two-run double to tie the game at 2-2.
1B Freddie Thon (2-4) added a single to score Correll to third base. 2B Rob Dahlberg (1-4) hit a single to score Correll for a 3-2 Joliet lead.
In the 5th inning, Rios hit a one-out single and moved to second base on a wild pitch. Harrison singled home Rios for a 4-2 Joliet lead.
In the 6th inning, Thon singled and moved to third base on a double by LF Wally Backman, Jr. (1-3). An error by Fargo-Moorhead CF Nic Jackson allowed Thon to score and give the JackHammers a 5-2 lead. CF Adam Klein (1-5) hit a single to plate Backman, Jr. and give Joliet a 6-2 lead.
In the 6th inning, C Alan Rick (0-2) worked a walk and 2B Carlo Cota (0-2) was hit by a pitch. Justice hit a three-run home run over the right field wall to get the RedHawks within one run at 6-5.
DH Mike Coles (1-3) worked a walk and Shortell left the game in favor of RHP Luke O'Loughlin. Penprase walked and Coles advanced to third base on a throwing error by new Joliet C Christian Lopez.
Jackson lifted a sacrifice fly to center field to score Coles and give the RedHawks a 7-6 lead.
Fargo-Moorhead added two runs of insurance in the 7th inning and one more run in the 8th inning to take a 9-6 lead.
