Schaumburg Flyers News Release

WINNIPEG - Dustin Glant returned to early-season form and the Flyers used timely hitting to top the Goldeyes 7-3 Saturday at Canwest Park, winning consecutive games for the first time since July 13th and 14th.

Cory Patton led off the game with a walk and moved to third on a Josh Asanovich single. Juan Diaz then bounced into a double play to score Patton, making it 1-0 Winnipeg in the first.

Schaumburg would answer right back in the second. Jeff Dunbar led things off with a double then scored on a Felix Jose single to tie it at 1-1.

An inning later, TJ Wilson led off with a walk and scored on an Antoan Richardson triple. After a Travis Brown walk, Richardson scored on a Dunbar groundout. Jose then singled home Brown to put the Flyers in front 4-1.

A Brent Metheny solo homer led off the Goldeyes' fifth to cut the lead to 4-2, but Glant would retire the next 12 Winnipeg hitters to finish his outing.

Lyndon Poole walked with one out in the sixth, and after a Richard Mercado single, Poole scored on a Wilson two-out single to make it 5-2. The Flyers then attempted a double steal, and Mercado scored to put the Flyers up 6-2 when catcher Dustin Richardson couldn't hold onto the throw from second.

Schaumburg added one more in the eighth. Tony Mansolino led off with a double and scored on Wilson's second RBI single of the night.

Glant gave way to Josh Giles for the eighth inning, and Giles got himself into a ton of trouble. Richardson and Patton led off the frame with back-to-back singles and then Giles walked Asanovich to load the bases for the league's home run leader, Juan Diaz. Diaz hit a sacrifice fly to center to score Richardson, but that's all the Goldeyes would muster. After recording the second out, Giles walked Metheny to load the bases once more.

Cephas Howard then came on and got Dee Brown to roll slowly to short to end the inning, and sat the Goldeyes down in order in the ninth to hammer down his fifth save.

Jose and Wilson each tallied a pair of hits and drove in two. Mercado also recorded two hits for the Flyers. No Goldeyes player recorded multiple hits.

Glant (6-5) picks up his first win since July 10th, allowing just two runs on four hits in seven innings of work. Andrew Cruse (5-5) takes the loss, giving up six runs on six hits, and walking a season-worst four through 5.1.

The Flyers look for the sweep tomorrow as LHP Alain Quijano (3-4, 6.03) throws against former big-leaguer Bill Pulsipher (1-0, 0.00). First pitch will be tossed at 1:30.
