Red Wolves Return Home to Face Forward Madison FC

June 6, 2023 - United Soccer League One (USL1)
Chattanooga Red Wolves SC News Release

The Chattanooga Red Wolves return home for the first time since May 20th when they drew against Union Omaha, 3-3. Last season's meetings between the two clubs fell in Chattanooga's favor with a commanding 5-2 win for the Red Wolves on September 10th in Madison after two 1-1 draws in Madison on August 13th and in Chattanooga on April 2nd. The 2023 series continues in Madison on August 9th and ends in Chattanooga on September 2nd.

Chattanooga faces Madison following a 1-0 loss on the road to the Richmond Kickers. The only goal of the match came early in the 15th minute as the Red Wolves and Kickers traded possessions and opportunities for the remainder of the match. The Red Wolves pressed offensively in the second half and had chances to equalize but were thwarted by the Richmond goalkeeper and defense. While Chattanooga led the stat sheet in shots over their opposition, particularly in the second half, they were unable to find the back of the net.

Forward Madison enters the match on the heels of a 2-1 loss to Central Valley Fuego FC at home on Saturday, June 3rd. Madison opened the scoring in first half added time, but Central Valley came back in the second half with a goal off of a header following a corner kick in the 74th minute and a penalty kick goal in the 83rd minute for the go head game winner. Forward Madison returns home on Saturday, June 10th against North Carolina FC.

Fans at this match will be able to enjoy select $2.00 beer and $5.00 craft beer for $2.00 Beer Night presented by Twin Peaks in addition to a post-match fireworks display, the first of the 2023 season at CHI Memorial Stadium. Following another road trip to Lexington SC (June 14) and Greenville Triumph SC (June 21), the Red Wolves return to action at home against Charlotte Independence on Saturday, June 24th for Tacos & Tequila Night.

RED WOLVES CONTINUE TO BATTLE INJURIES

The Red Wolves will be without defender Manuel Madrid for four to six weeks following a hamstring injury in Saturday's match against Richmond. Madrid has been a key piece of the backline for the Red Wolves, appearing and starting in five matches. A quad injury previously kept him out of a handful of matches earlier in the season and this latest hamstring injury comes along with a slew of other injuries to the Red Wolves lineup.

While Christian Enriquez draws closer to returning to action, Andrew Paoli and Yahir Paez both remain out with ankle and foot injuries. Moe Espinoza and Mekeil Williams, both listed as questionable for the Richmond match, return with full clearance while Alex Tejera has been upgraded to probable status.

USL W LADY RED WOLVES CONTINUE TO FIND SUCCESS AT HOME

The Chattanooga Red Wolves USL W squad, the Lady Red Wolves, extended their unbeaten home streak on Sunday, June 4th with a commanding 4-1 win over league newcomer Birmingham Legion WFC. Mackenzie Smith scored two goals in the match for her first multi-goal performance of the season while Clarissa Salinas and Sinoxolo Cesane provided the additional two goals. The women's team came into the match having previously beat the reigning USL W league champion South Georgia Tormenta FC on the road on Thursday, June 1st. They look to get more points on the road for their next four matches before returning home to close out the season against Tormenta FC on June 30th.
