Grand Rapids Griffins News Release
GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - The Detroit Red Wings on Tuesday recalled right wing Gustav Nyquist from the Grand Rapids Griffins and assigned left wing Tomas Tatar to the Griffins.
A native of Halmstad, Sweden, Nyquist has a three-point lead in the AHL scoring race with 60 points (23-37-60) in 57 games. The second-year pro saw a six-game point streak come to an end on Friday versus Hamilton, but the 23-year-old has racked up 15 points (6-9-15) over his last nine games, including four three-point outings. In 121 career games with the Griffins, Nyquist has recorded 122 points (46-76-122) and 52 penalty minutes.
A member of the 2012 AHL All-Rookie Team and a two-time AHL All-Star, Nyquist leads the Griffins in goals and assists, topping the 58 points (22-36-58) he registered in 2011-12. The 5-foot-11, 185-pound forward has also suited up in 20 career contests for the Red Wings, recording seven points (1-6-7) and two penalty minutes.
Tatar, 22, ranks second on the Griffins with 39 points (19-20-39) in 44 games. Recalled by Detroit on Feb. 3, the Ilava, Slovakia, native registered seven points (4-3-7) in 18 games, tying for eighth on the team and for 18th among NHL rookies. The fifth-year pro ranks among the Griffins' all-time leaders with 83 goals (3rd), 103 assists (7th), 186 points (6th) and 15 game-winning goals (3rd) in his 248 career AHL games. He owns eight points (5-3-8) in 27 career NHL contests.
Winners of four straight, the Griffins will look to extend their AHL-best winning streak when they host the Chicago Wolves on Wednesday at 7 p.m., before playing 10 of their next 11 games (March 16-April 6) away from home. Tickets for Wednesday's game are available at griffinshockey.com.
