
Red Hot Stampede Look To Continue Win Streak This Weekend At Home

The Stampede (8-1-2) will put their four-game winning streak on the line this weekend as they close out their nine-game homestand against Cedar Rapids and Omaha. The Herd enter the week in second place in the West Division and four points behind Omaha for first. The Lancers have won eight straight and are off to an 11-1-0 start.
The Stampede continued their winning streak over the weekend, posting victories over Tri-City and Indiana. On Friday, the Herd topped Tri-City 2-1 on goals from Matt Bailey and Jacob Johnstone. Lino Chimienti earned the win in goal, stopping 12 of 13 shots. On Saturday, Dominic Zombo tallied two goals while Matt Bailey and Josh Holmstrom posted four assists each in a 6-2 win over Indiana. Clay Witt earned the win in goal with 23 saves
Teddy Bear Toss Saturday Night
This Saturday is the annual Stampede "Teddy Bear Toss," presented by Avera McKennan and the Orthopedic Institute.
Fans are encouraged to bring "new" stuffed animals to the game and toss them on the ice after the Herd's first goal. Be sure to write your section, row and seat number on the tag of your animal to be eligible to win several great prizes, including a gift basket from Avera McKennan valued at $100!
A limited number of Stampede Teddy Bears are available for purchase at the Avera McKennan Hospital "Gift Store" for just $10.
All stuffed animals collected will be given to the pediatric unit at Avera McKennan during the players annual holiday visit in December.
STAMPEDE DID YOU KNOW???
* First year goaltender Lino Chimienti ranks first amongst USHL goaltenders with a 5-0-0 record, a 1.40 GAA and a.934 save percentage.
* Forward Matt Bailey leads the Herd in scoring with 17 points (7g, 10a) and is tied for fourth overall in the league in total points.
* Bailey and Chad Ruhwedel rank fourth in the league with a plus-9 rating.
* Bailey and Jacob Johnstone are both on five-game point streaks entering the weekend.
* The Stampede rank second in the USHL in goals-against average (2.18) and second overall in goals-for (4.18) Omaha ranks first in both categories at 4.42 goals-for per-game and 2.08 goals-against.
* The Herd are allowing just over 23 shots per-game, second best in the USHL.
* The Stampede are 6-0-1 against the West Division this season.
JONES HELPS GUIDE U.S. SELECT TEAM
TO GOLD MEDAL
Stampede assistant coach Andy Jones helped guide the U.S. Select Team to a gold medal at the World Junior A Challenge Sunday night in Canada. Team USA defeated Canada West 2-1 for their second straight World Junior A Challenge championship. Jones served as an assistant coach with the U.S. Select Team.
Eamonn McDermott and Matt Leitner, both from the Fargo Force, scored in the win. Eric Mihalik (Des Moines) stopped 28 shots in the victory. 21 of the 22 players on the roster play in the USHL.
CONNOLLY & TROPP LEAD NATION IN SCORING
Former Stampede stars Jack Connolly (Minnesota-Duluth) and Corey Tropp (Michigan State) lead the NCAA in scoring with 15 points each. Connolly (07-08), had an assist in a 4-3 win at Colorado College on Friday night. The Bulldogs fell the following night 6-2. Former Herd defenseman Gabe Guentzel had three assists in the win for the Tigers. The Bulldogs host Michigan Tech this weekend.
Tropp (05-07), had a goal and an assist on Friday in the Spartans 3-0 win against Nebraska-Omaha. The Spartans tied the Mavericks, 3-3, on Saturday. Tropp leads the country in goals scored with eight. The Spartans are 7-2-1 on the season and have a home-and-home with arch rival Michigan this weekend.
GOLIGOSKI LEADS NHL IN PLUS/MINUS
Former Stampede defenseman Alex Goligoski leads the National Hockey League in the plus/minus category with a plus-14 rating. His 13 points (6g, 7a) ranks fifth amongst all NHL defenseman.
Goligoski spent part of the 2003-04 season with the Stampede and was a member of the Pittsburgh Penguins Stanley Cup champion team last year.
Goligoski and the Penguins will be on "Versus" Tuesday night when the Penguins travel Boston to face the Bruins at 6 PM (CST). The Penguins are the top team in the Eastern Conference with a 12-5-0 record.
