Indiana Ice News Release

ROAD REPORT: The Ice went 1-2-0 on a three-game swing out west against Sioux City, Sioux Falls and Omaha. The trip began on a high note Thursday night in Sioux City as the Ice silenced the Musketeers 4-2 as four different players registered goals and Casey DeSmith earned the win between the pipes. The weekend was a tough one for Indiana as the Stampede rolled past the Ice 6-2 on Saturday night and the Lancers followed suit on Sunday with a 6-0 victory over Indy.

YES THEY MEET AGAIN: The Indiana Ice and Fargo Force renew acquaintances this weekend for the first time since 5/8/09 when the Ice defeated the Force 5-1 to win the best-of-five Clark Cup championship series three games to one. Fargo returns 14 players from last year's runner-up squad, while Indiana has five championship players back in uniform this season.

GOLD STANDARD: The U.S. Junior Select Team captured its second straight World Junior A Challenge championship with a 2-1 win over Canada West on Sunday in Prince Edward Island. The Ice was well represented at the tournament as head coach Jeff Blashill, director of hockey services Darrin Flinchem and players Shane Berschbach, Nic Dowd, Nick Mattson and John Parker were all part of the championship squad. Berschbach, who finished third among all skaters with eight points (5G, 3A), was named to the all-tournament team.

TAKE THAT OLD RECORD OFF THE SHELF: In Thursday's 4-2 win over Sioux City, the Ice held the Musketeers to just 14 shots on goal which is a new Ice USHL record..

TEAM NOTABLES: Nick Bailen (G, 4A) and Brian Ferlin (2G, 2A) had four-game point streaks come to a close on Sunday....Sean Kuraly and Kent Sherrer of the Ohio AAA Blue Jackets played for the shorthanded Ice over the weekend...The Ice has played the least amount of home games (3) and is the only undefeated team at home with a 3-0-0 clip...Indy is 5-1-0 against the East Division, but just 1-3-1 against the West....The Ice has already been shut out twice this season after being only blanked once in 2008-09.

ALUMNI SCOOP: Justin Milo-Vermont (2005-06) led all alumni with a four-point weekend....Grant Blakey-Mercyhurst (2008-09) and Patrick Cullen-RPI (2007-08) posted three-point efforts and Cody Reichard-Miami (2005-07) had a pair of wins in net... John Carlson (2007-08) handed out two assists for Hershey (AHL) on the weekend and has nine points (G, 8A) in 11 games for Washington's top affiliate.
