TUG MCGRAW TRIBUTE SLATED FOR AUGUST 11 The Scranton/Wilkes-Barre Red Barons in conjunction with the Tug McGraw foundation will pay tribute to the late Phillies great with a special night on August 11th as the Red Barons take on Syracuse.

The night is aimed at promoting public awareness of brain tumors and brain tumor research.

Headlining the evening will be special appearances by former Phillies Larry Christensen and Darren Daulton. Both players will take part in first pitch ceremonies and then sign autographs in the concourse for a donation.

Other highlights include:

· A video commemorating Tug's life will be shown on the video prior to the start of the game.

· · Commemorative Tug McGraw photo cards will be distributed to the first 3,000 fans.

· · The foundation will have an information table set up with copies of Tug's book Ya Gotta Believe and Ya Gotta Believe hats for sale.

· · A silent auction will be held in the concourse featuring items from the Phillies and Red Barons. Items include signed baseballs from Steve Carlton, Andre Dawson, Larry Bowa and Placido Polanco. Select signed items from Tug McGraw will also be up for bid.

BARON BITS

Jorge Padilla was activated from the disabled list today. He has been on the DL since July 20 with a sprained ankle.......According to a report on www.phillies.com, RHP Vicente Padilla will start for the Red Barons Thursday on rehab. He threw 40 pitches against the Class A Tampa Yankees on Saturday and reported no problems. The report also said he is scheduled to throw five innings or 50-55 pitches. Assuming nothing happens, he'll return to the Phillies to start Aug. 10 at Citizens Bank Park against the Rockies.

ADOPTION NIGHT The Scranton/Wilkes Barre Red Barons will host an Adoption Night highlighting the work of the Statewide Adoption Network (SWAN) in finding permanent, loving homes for foster children at its game against the Rochester Red Wings at 6:00 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 8, at Lackawanna County Stadium, Moosic.

A child who has been adopted through SWAN will throw out the first pitch, and following the game children from the foster and adoption systems will run the bases. Anyone stopping by the SWAN booth outside the stadium and inquiring about adoption will receive tickets at a reduced rate.

Administered by the Department of Public Welfare, SWAN is a one-stop resource that links county children and youth agencies, private adoptive agencies, the courts and legal community, and potential adoptive parents.
