
Receiver Darryl Carter Joins 'Ants for Another Season

TUPELO, MS--The Tupelo FireAnts are pleased to announce the re-signing of wide receiver Darryl Carter to the 2004 player lineup.
Carter, a native of Laurel, Mississippi, joined the FireAnts in the middle of last season, adding an immediate spark to the team's offensive efforts. Signed on as a wide receiver initially, Carter was quickly put to work in other positions. In five games played with the FireAnts, Carter hauled in 18 receptions for 181 yards and five touchdowns. He also ran the ball on 24 attempts for 90 yards and two touchdowns to his credit. At quarterback, Carter completed 29 of 71 pass attempts good for 355 yards and five touchdowns to cap off the season.
Carter was a highly regarded duel-sport high school athlete in both football and basketball. During his senior year at Northeast Jones in Laurel, he gained various awards and accolades for his football efforts, including the District 5-4A MVP along with being named to the 1995 Clarion Ledger Dandy Dozen.
Following high school, Carter attended Jones County Junior College before transferring to the University of Louisiana-Monroe in 1999, where he played both quarterback and wide receiver. Upon graduation with his degree from ULM, Carter played indoor football with the Omaha Beef before making his way to Tupelo.
"Darryl gives us yet another very good football player and person," Head Coach Bobby Hall said. "He gives us a big receiver with good speed. Being versatile, Darryl could also play on defense if we needed him to."
The FireAnts have signed nine players to date, including Joe Gunn, Pig Prather, Patrick Garth, Rico McDonald, Bobby Hill, Chris Rainey, Eric Bingham, Will Hall and now Darryl Carter to the 2004 lineup.
The FireAnts will kick off the 2004 season on Friday, March 12th at the BancorpSouth Center in Tupelo. Season tickets are still on sale for all seven home games of football action by calling the FireAnts Office at (662) 620-BITE, with prices starting as low as $70 for adults and $42 for children 12 and under / seniors 60 and older.
