Mystic Schooners News Release
The Plymouth Pilgrims clobbered the Schooners Sunday night behind a fantastic outing from starting pitcher Nick Margevicius.
The Pilgrims would jump out to an early lead in the first inning and never surrender it. Cole Gordon hit a massive two-run home run to right field to put the Pilgrims on the board early.
The Schooners offense was neutralized today by great pitching from Nick Margevicius. Margevicius from the opening pitch was on his A game throwing strikes and not giving Mystic batters anything good to hit. He took a no-hitter into the 6th inning until Ryan Ramiz hit a hard line drive up the middle. Margevicius's would go seven innings giving up two runs on five hits while striking out five.
The Pilgrims would tack on eleven runs between the 5th and 8th innings blowing the game wide open. They would score two runs in the 5th inning off of three hits, three runs in the 6th inning off of a hit and two errors, four runs in the 7th inning off of four hits and two runs in the 8th inning. The Pilgrims would have 17 hits throughout the ballgame and everybody in their starting lineup would get a hit except for Jesse Baker.
Mystics bats weren't cold on the night they did have 10 hits but they were unable to string together hits together in order to score runs. They would not be shut out though, as they got some production in the 7th and 8th innings.
In the 7th inning, they struck for two runs off of two doubles by Rich Slenker scoring Toby Handley and Chase Lunceford scoring Slenker. They would score two more runs in the 8th inning off a Nick Mascelli single and Lunceford single.
