Philadelphia Rebels News Release
SEWELL, NJ - On Saturday night, the Philadelphia Rebels (2-4-0-0, 4 pts) fell 2-1 in the second half of their back-to-back weekend series with the Maryland Black Bears (7-1-0-0, 14 pts).
Saturday night's contest started off similarly to Friday's with Maryland holding a large advantage in shots with 26 in the first period. Rebels goaltender Jack Fialkoff stopped all 26 to hold the game scoreless after 20 minutes.
Both teams were unable to convert on two first-period power plays each, but early in the second, Christian Catalano broke the ice for Maryland and beat Fialkoff on a rebound chance in front of the Philadelphia net.
In total, Fialkoff stopped 46 of 48 shots against the Rebels and the score remained 1-0 Maryland until late in regulation.
With 6:36 left in the third period, the Black Bears pounced on an odd-man rush as Dimitry Kebreau potted his fourth goal of the weekend and extended Maryland's lead to 2-0.
Philadelphia had a quick response after Kebreau's tally when a Klaus Jogi knocked in the rebound off an Isaac Barrett shot with 4:22 left. David Deputy got the secondary assist on Jogi's second goal of the campaign.
In the late stages of the third, Oliver Band was called for a boarding penalty and the Rebels were forced to play short-handed for the final 2:39 of regulation.
Deputy created a couple short-handed chances, but Philadelphia could only manage 13 total shots and could not find the tying goal late.
Philadelphia will be back on the ice on Saturday, Oct. 1 in Johnstown, PA at 7 p.m. The game will be available to watch on HockeyTV.
