January 3, 2003 - National Lacrosse League (NLL) - Ottawa Rebel News Release

Columbus Landsharks 14, Ottawa Rebel 13
Ottawa Record: 0-2
Columbus Record: 2-0

Player of the Game: Kasey Beirnes of Columbus scored twice and added four assists.

Ottawa Player of the Game: Rebel attacker Kevin Howard scored five times.

Scorers: Ottawa - Kevin Howard 5 goals, 1 assist; Mat Giles 2 goals, 3 assists; Jason Clark 2 goals, 1 assist; Kevin Dostie 2 goals, Scott Self 1 goal.

Synopsis: In a see-saw battle in Columbus, the Rebel fell short for the team's second loss of the season. Mat Giles scored with 35 seconds remaining with goaltender Andrew Leyshon on the bench for an extra attacker to bring Ottawa to within one goal, but the Rebel could not get the equalizer.

Notable: Orleans resident Kevin Dostie scored twice in his National Lacrosse League début ... The game began at 3 p.m. instead of the original start time of 7:30 p.m. due to the Fiesta Bowl game between Ohio State (based in Columbus) and Miami ... The Rebel led 4-2 after the first quarter, was tied 6-6 at the half, and trailed 10-8 after the third quarter.

Upcoming Rebel Games:
Saturday, Jan. 4 @ New York Saints, 7:30 p.m. (Nassau Coliseum)
Next Home Game: Sat., Jan. 11 vs. Colorado Mammoth, 7 p.m. (Civic Centre, Lansdowne Park)
