Ottawa Rebel Suspends Operations

July 30, 2003 - National Lacrosse League (NLL) - Ottawa Rebel News Release

OTTAWA – The Ottawa Rebel, members of the National Lacrosse League for three seasons, has suspended operation effective immediately.

A dispersal draft of former Rebel players will be conducted by the National Lacrosse League at 4 p.m. EDT on Thursday, July 31.

The Rebel is suspending operation in Ottawa due to lack of fan support. The Rebel attracted an average attendance of 3,638 at eight home games during the 2003 season, an insufficient draw to sustain operation in a professional sports league.

The ownership group of the former Rebel retains control of the franchise and, along with National Lacrosse League, will attempt to find a new city for the franchise.

The dispersal draft will be held by teleconference call and will consist of three rounds.

Following is a list of players eligible for the dispersal draft:

ACTIVE ROSTER: Jason Clark; Bruce Codd; Brennan Day; Matt Disher; Kevin Dostie; Stephen Evans; Mat Giles; Mike Henderson; Kevin Howard; Chris Konopliff; Marc Landriault; Kyle Laverty; Andrew Leyshon; Kevin Lunnie; Doug Noganosh; Eric Pacey; Ryan Painter; Jamie Roy; Brandon Sanderson; Brad Self; Scott Self; John Veltman; Shawn Zettel
