Real Salt Lake ties CD Chivas USA, 2-2

SALT LAKE CITY (Wednesday, March 16, 2005) â Real Salt Lake forward Jamie Watson netted RSL's first goal in the 51st minute while Midfielder Leighton O'Brien added the second goal in 54th minute in a 2-2 draw today against expansion brethren CD Chivas USA in Carson, Calif. This game marks the first meeting between the two teams, with the first official game coming at the Home Depot Center on Friday, May 7.
"Every game during preseason has been helpful and with Chivas USA we ran into a tactical situation," said RSL Head Coach John Ellinger. "The progress of our younger players is coming along and today they demonstrated they are closing the gap on the senior players."
Today's RSL lineup was as follows:

Chivas USA No. 1 2004 Expansion Draft pick FW Arturo Torres scored the lone goal of the first half in the 22nd minute putting our expansion brethren up 1-0. Rookie FW Jamie Watson notched RSL's first goal when MF Kevin Novak made a breaking run down the right passing the ball off to Watson who nailed it in the back of the net in the 51st minute. Just three minutes later, MF Leighton O'Brien scored his first goal of the preseason during a penalty kick in the 54th minute after being brought down hard in the box. The final goal came just after regulation when MF Hector Cuadros netted Chivas USA's second goal in the 91st minute ending the game in 2-2 draw.
