Real Salt Lake News Release
SALT LAKE CITY (Friday, February 15, 2008) - Real Salt Lake continued to shuffle its roster today as it began its second training camp of the 2008 preseason, announcing the squad has waived third-year DF Willis Forko. In addition, four trialists that were with RSL at the team's maiden camp in California - FW Adam Acosta, FW Sergio Comba, MF Dusan Simic, and FW Jeff Rowland - were released from the squad ahead of the team's current stint in Florida.
The 24-year-old Forko spent his first two professional seasons as a member of Real Salt Lake, which drafted the University of Connecticut standout in the second round of the 2006 MLS Supplemental Draft (14th overall). Forko started in all 38 appearances he made for RSL in regular season play and contributed one assist during his rookie campaign of 2006, in which he started 26 of the squad's 32 contests.
Acosta, a native of Salt Lake City, was a member of the RSL roster during the 2006 campaign and has represented the squad in MLS Reserve Division play in each of the team's first three seasons. The 24-year-old Rowland was hoping to catch on with Real Salt Lake for a third time after suffering ACL injuries in each of the last two seasons, but the second overall pick in the 2006 MLS Supplemental Draft was unable to secure a spot on the club's '08 roster. Simic and Comba both joined Real Salt Lake on a trial basis for the California trek, but failed to impress enough to earn a trip to Florida.
Real Salt Lake's plans in the Sunshine State include the addition of MF Matias Cordoba to the team's camp. The 23-year-old Argentine attacker is expected to join the squad for training this afternoon after obtaining his work visa earlier this week. In addition, RSL is hosting two trialists looking to secure a spot on the 2008 roster - MF Salim Bullen and FW Indra Sahdan Daud.
Salim Bullen: A 23-year-old wide midfielder that spent the 2006 season with the USL1's Portland Timbers and, more recently, played in nine contests for the MISL's Milwaukee Wave during the early portion of the 2007/08 season ... Spent his four-year collegiate career at Bradley University from 2002-05, playing in 65 contests and contributing three goals and nine assists during his time with the Braves ... Earned All-Missouri Valley Conference Second Team honors following his senior season after starting all 21 games and registering a goal and six assists.
Indra Sahdan Daud: Recently-appointed captain of the Singapore National Team, Indra has proven himself to be one of Asia's most prolific goal scorers this decade ... The 28-year-old forward became the first native-born player to score 100 goals in the S. League (Singaporean first division) ... Indra has racked up 26 goals in over 80 caps for the Singapore National Team, of which he was named the captain of prior to the country's World Cup 2010 qualifying debut against Tajikistan last November ... Indra has played for Home United FC since the 2001 campaign, this after beginning his S. League career with Geylang United FC in 2000.
