Real Salt Lake Finishes Three-Game Road Stretch at Portland Timbers

HERRIMAN, Utah - Real Salt Lake finishes its stretch of three consecutive road matches in eight days at Providence Park on Saturday, August 7 at 8:30 p.m. MT, facing Portland Timbers for the first time this season.

The match will be broadcast live on KMYU and can be accessed locally via live stream on the KSL TV app. ESPN700 will carry the English radio broadcast and Spanish-speaking fans can tune in on KBMG Latino 106.3, La Gran D 102.3 and KTUB 1600.

King Kreilach

Real Salt Lake's 2021 MLS All-Star, Damir Kreilach, has scored in every one of the team's previous three matches against Portland Timbers, most recently at Rio Tinto Stadium on October 14, 2020. The midfielder also scored in the team's 4-4 dramatic comeback draw at Providence Park on August 29, 2020. Finally, he scored the opening goal in the team's 2-1 win on October 19, 2019 to secure a berth in the 2019 MLS Western Conference Semifinals.

The Enemy You Know

Portland enters Saturday's game on a three-game winless streak, with losses against Minnesota United and LA Galaxy, as well as a 1-1 draw this past Wednesday with San Jose Earthquakes. During Wednesday's match Portland's starting midfielder Diego Chara received a red card and will be ineligible for the match against Real Salt Lake. Portland currently sits just one point behind RSL in eighth place in the Western Conference.

Connections: Midfielder Nick Besler was selected fifth overall by Portland Timbers in the 2015 MLS SuperDraft and spent two seasons with the club's USL Championship side before coming to Utah via Real Monarchs prior to the start of the 2017 season. On the other hand, Portland goalkeeper Jeff Antilla appeared in 29 matches for Real Salt Lake from 2013-16.

Forward Rubio Rubin was born and raised just outside of Portland in Beaverton, Oregon. This will be the first opportunity in his professional career for the Oregon-native to play in his hometown after spending the majority of his career overseas.

Former RSL Assistant Coach Miles Joseph currently serves as the assistant coach for Portland Timbers. Joseph served under Jason Kreis from 2010-14.
