
Real Monarchs SLC Seeks Playoff Berth at Home against Orange County SC on Wednesday

HERRIMAN, Utah (Friday) - Real Monarchs SLC (13-10-7, 46 points, 6 West) is set to host Orange County SC in a pivotal midweek match on Wednesday, October 9th at Zions Bank Stadium. Kickoff from Herriman is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. MT and can be viewed live on ESPN+.

Real Monarchs head into Wednesday's match after spending the last three games away from home. Over the three-game road stretch, Real Monarchs picked up six out of a possible nine points in its contested battle over 4th in the West. It's last outing saw the Monarchs earn a come-from-behind 2-1 victory behind DF Noah Powder's second goal of the season and RSL DF Erik Holt's first of the season, making him the 20th player to record a goal in a Monarchs uniform in 2019.
With four games left for the Monarchs in the 2019 USL Championship season, Real Monarchs continues its fight for a spot in the USL Championship playoffs. The Monarchs currently sit 6th in the West with 46 points just two points below the 4th place, Sacramento Republic FC. A Monarchs win on Wednesday over Orange County SC could see the Utah club earn its berth in the USL Championship playoffs for the third consecutive year. Orange County SC heads into Wednesday's contest having already clinched a spot in the playoffs after its 2-0 win over OKC Energy FC last Saturday.

Moving into the final four games of the 2019 season, Real Monarchs SLC has seen 20 unique players tally a goal in a Monarchs jersey. The attacking front is led by Honduran International FW Douglas Martinez, who has recorded 15 goals and 6 assists across 20 appearances as well as earning the club's first hat-trick in the dominant 5-0 victory over Tacoma Defiance on July 12. Meanwhile, MF Maikel Chang and Team Captain Jack Blake continues to provide a meaningful presence in the midfield providing a combined 19 goals and 5 assists as of September 28.
In front goal, USL Veteran DF Noah Powder has made himself a mainstay on the backline with 26 starts and 27 appearances so far this season. Paired with fellow defenders, Kalen Ryden, Jordan Pena, and Konrad Plewa, the Monarchs backline has begun to solidify and limiting the opposing attack to help in pushing Real Monarchs to its third consecutive playoff appearance in as many years.
In goal, U-20 USMNT star GK David Ochoa leads the Monarchs with three clean sheets and 51 saves in 15 appearances. Ochoa returned to Utah after featuring in two matches of the 2019 FIFA U-20 World Cup where he tallied one shutout and was named to the 2019 MLS Homegrown Game roster. GK Andrew Putna has also made appearances in goal for the Monarchs this season, tallying three clean sheets and 24 saves in ten appearances for the club.
