Real Monarchs SLC Hosts Tacoma Defiance on Friday

HERRIMAN, Utah - Real Monarchs SLC (7-6-3, 24 points, 9 West) is set to host Tacoma Defiance onFriday, July 12 at Zions Bank Stadium for the USL Championship Game of the Week. The evening Kick off from Herriman is scheduled for 8:00 p.m. MT and can be seen LIVE nationally on ESPN3.
In its last outing, the Monarchs hosted New Mexico United and came away with a 1-0 win courtesy of a penalty kick conversion from MF Maikel Chang in the second half. The closely contested match saw both sides go into the half-time break without a goal having traded possession and opportunities. After FW Douglas Martinez was brought down in the penalty area, Chang stepped up to put the Monarchs on the board in the 59th minute. Paired with three saves from GK David Ochoa, the Monarchs earned its third clean sheet of the season, while picking up three points to move above the playoff line.
Real Monarchs SLC remains at home as it hosts Tacoma Defiance. Friday's contest will be the first between the two in the 2019 USL Championship season. Last season, the two sides faced off twice in match-ups that saw the Monarchs pick up the 3-1, and 2-0 wins. As the Monarchs finds its stride in search of its fifth consecutive win, Tacoma Defiance is still seeking just its third win of the season.
