Real Monarchs Signs Goalkeeper Jimmy Slayton

HERRIMAN, Utah - Real Monarchs have signed goalkeeper Jimmy Slayton ahead of the 2020 season pending league and federation approval, the club announced today. The terms of his contract have not been disclosed.

"Adding a goalkeeper of Jimmy's quality was important for 2020," RSL Technical Director Dan Egner said. "He's a player our coaching staff is familiar with and has worked with in the past, so this was a natural fit. We expect him to come in, continue his development, and push our other young keepers for minutes."

Slayton, 21, capped a stellar career at the University of Hartford where he played since 2016. During his time with the Hawks, Slayton made 55 appearances and recorded 11 shutouts. The Connecticut native highlighted the 2016 America East All-Rookie Team, the 2018 America East All-Academic Team and was named to the America East commissioner's Honor Roll three years running from 2016 to 2018. Through 2019, Slayton set a school record for single-season shutouts, helping lift his side to an 11-game unbeaten streak and an appearance in the America East championship game to earn a spot on the All-Conference Second Team.

Real Monarchs finished the 2019 season having won its first USL Championship Title after finishing 4th in the Western Conference at 16-10-8 (56 points). The Monarchs begins their title defense on the road against San Antonio FC on March 7 before returning to Zions Bank Stadium to begin its Four-Corners Cup defense against Phoenix Rising FC on Saturday, March 14, at 3:00 p.m. MT.
