Real Monarchs Hit the Road Sunday at Vancouver

SANDY, Utah - Real Monarchs SLC (3-4-3, 12 pts) continues its run of 11 consecutive games away from Rio Tinto Stadium, facing off with Vancouver Whitecaps FC 2 on Sunday at 3 p.m. MT from the University of British Columbia's Thunderbird Stadium. Head Coach Freddy Juarez' team started its second USL campaign strong out of the gates with a 2-0-1 record through the first three matches, but has won just once since - a 3-1 comeback win over the Orange County Blues at Ute Field on the University of Utah campus on May 21. The Monarchs are looking to bounce back from a 3-1 defeat to the Oklahoma City Energy on Tuesday in Oklahoma, a match that saw Real Salt Lake on-loan FW Devon Sandoval score first before a weather-soaked match saw the home-standing Energy storm back for three unanswered goals. The loss drops the Monarchs to 1-2-1 on the road.

MF Ricardo Velazco assisted on Sandoval's goal to maintain a personal hot streak, with three goals and two assists in his last three matches.

Sunday's match is the fifth of an 11-game trek away from home, although two games during the stretch - including last week's win over the Blues and the Sat., June 11 game v Sacramento - which are considered "Monarchs On Tour" home matches, with the June match played at Aces Ballpark in Reno, Nevada. The Monarchs return to Rio Tinto Stadium on Saturday, July 2, hosting Vancouver Whitecaps 2 after the Sandy venue's field resurfacing is complete.

This is the first of two consecutive road matches against Vancouver, with the Monarchs returning to Utah before the second match on Saturday, June 4, at 8 p.m. MT.
