Real Monarchs News Release
HERRIMAN, Utah - Real Monarchs dropped a 1-0 result at home to El Paso Locomotive FC on Saturday night in front of a socially-distanced sell-out crowd of 522 fans at Zions Bank Stadium.
A second half goal from Nick Ross in the 51st minute was enough to give Locomotive FC the victory.
After a slow start to the match, both sides picked up the pressure late in the first half. Midfielder Luke Mulholland had a shot saved in the 35th minute, while Locomotive FC midfielder Omar Salgado had a header miss just wide in the 43rd minute. The Monarchs dominated possession in the midfield throughout the first half and earned four corners but to no avail as the sides went into the break scoreless.
Locomotive FC started the second half on the front foot. In the 50th minute, midfielder Aarón Gómez crossed a ball into the box that was gathered up by midfielder Nick Ross and buried into the bottom right corner of the net for the breakthrough goal. With their backs against the wall, the Monarchs pushed forward. The Monarchs best chance of the match came in the 85th minute when forward Julian Vázquez's shot on frame was saved by goalkeeper Logan Ketterer to preserve the road win for El Paso.
UP NEXT: Real Monarchs are back at home for the first of two matches against New Mexico United on Wednesday, August 19 at 8:00 p.m.
