HERRIMAN, Utah - Real Monarchs have signed Real Salt Lake Academy forward Terron Williams to an MLS NEXT Pro professional contract ahead of the inaugural MLS NEXT Pro season, pending league approval.
"During his time in our academy Terron Williams has continually proved himself as an elite attacking threat. With the signature of his first professional contract for Real Monarchs, our Club and staff eagerly look forward to continuing his develop at the professional level, and being a part of Terron's progression for years to come," Real Salt Lake Assistant General Manager Tony Beltran said.
Williams, 16, is the latest RSL Academy to sign a professional contract with Real Monarchs, joining fellow forward Yekeson Subah. In the past Real Salt Lake has seen many of its players ascend from RSL Academy to Real Monarchs, eventually signing with the MLS team including Homegrown Players Andrew Brody, Julio Benitez, Gavin Beavers and Jaziel Orozco.
The young forward first joined the RSL Academy ahead of the 2020 MLS NEXT season, competing at the U17 age level from San Diego Surf. This season he has helped the U17s into fourth place of the MLS NEXT West Division at the midway point of the season.
Real Monarchs are set to compete in MLS NEXT Pro for the 2022 season, the schedule for which will be released at a later date. This move comes after seven seasons in the USL Championship, during which the team won the 2019 USL Championship Title, the 2017 USL Regular Season Shield and the Western Conference Title in both 2017 and 2019 while also qualifying for the postseason in 2018.
