Real Maryland Monarchs News Release

Silver Spring, MD - On Monday, February 15th, Tuesday, February 16th and Thursday, February 18th, Real Maryland will be conducting its final "open" tryouts at Richard Montgomery High School. On the heels of this past weekend's successful tryouts with near capacity players fighting for the few spots available, the Monarchs expect a large turnout for the final "open" tryouts.

On Monday, February 15th from 6 pm - 9 pm, tryouts for the Monarch Travel Teams will take place under the lights at the home stadium of the professional Monarch Team. The Travel Team age groups that are being looked at by Real Maryland FC are the U8, U9, U10, U11 and U12's. Both boys and girls are welcome to tryout. The travel teams will play in the OBSL in the spring of 2010.

On Tuesday, February 16th from 6 pm - 9 pm, tryouts for the Monarchs Super Y League Teams will take place. The Super Y League age groups that will be offered this year are U13, U14, U15, U16, U17 & U20 for boys. The U17 Team made it to the National Finals in 2009. In 2010, Real Maryland is looking to send more teams to Tampa, FL to compete in the Finals. Players who have already been offered a contract are expected to attend the training session.

The final "open" Professional tryouts will take place on Thursday, February 18th from 6 - 9 pm. Players who make this cut will be invited into the following weeks "invite" only training sessions. These training sessions take place just before the signed players arrive and some players may even get a chance to play with the signed professionals.

Players that make the Real Maryland Squad will receive free entry into all Professional Home Games and will have the potential opportunity to travel over to Spain to live and train with Real Sporting Gijon. In 2009, the Monarchs sent over 3 youth players to live and train with their partner club Real Sporting Gijon. In addition to its youth, Real Maryland sent over its captain John Borrajo to live and train with the club. The opportunity has now landed him playing time in Sweden.

Real Maryland FC participates in the Second Division of the United Soccer Leagues. All 2009 Regular Season Home Games will be played at Lester Stadium at Richard Montgomery High School in Rockville, MD.
