
RazorSharks sign Friel

(Rochester, N.Y.)Å .The Rochester RazorSharks professional basketball team announced today the signing of 6'4" guard Keith Friel, a former collegiate standout at Virginia and Notre Dame. Friel will join over 18 other professional players at the RazorSharks first-ever training camp this Monday, October 17 at the MetroCenter YMCA in downtown Rochester.
"Keith is a player with great shooting ability with deep range," said Brendan Rooney, the RazorSharks Director of Player Personnel. "He has played at the highest levels as a collegiate player, played in Europe and has represented the United States in international competition. We look forward to having his scoring touch in the line-up"
A native of Portsmouth, New Hampshire, Friel (pronounced FREEL) played two seasons at Notre Dame, where he averaged 8.9 points per game as a sophomore before transferring to Virginia after the 1997-98 college season. Friel was a captain of the Cavaliers his senior season, averaging 8.4 points per game and was one of the leading three-point shooters in the country.
The 28 year-old played for the Boston Frenzy in the American Basketball Association last season. Friel has also played professionally for the Roanoke Dazzle (NBDL) and Kansas Cagerz (USBL) in the United States and for the Dart Killester Dublin in the Ireland SuperLeague, where he was the All-Irish SuperLeague Import Player of the Year in 2003-04.
Friel has represented the United States with the Nike NIT All-Star Touring Team in 1998-99 and the U.S. Pro-Am Selection Team, which toured the Philippines in 2004.
The RazorSharks will tip-off their inaugural season of play in the ABA on Saturday, November 5 at The Blue Cross Arena at 7:35 p.m. against the Buffalo Rapids.
